Plotki rested his hands on the edge of the basket and stared outwards. Usually he would have sat inside the shelter of the basket walls, but that would have meant facing Youally’s brooding silence. For reasons he couldn’t explain he found the other summoner profoundly irritating, so much so he couldn’t hold his train of thought. So instead he was facing the wind, unaffected by the chill sunk deep in thought. His eyes may have been looking at the passing scenery but he wasn’t actually seeing any of it.

The rogue summoners were not acting as he had expected. His own words to Youally bothered him. The girl could have summoned a level fifteen using a request, but the only summoning he had felt was incredibly weak. Even over the distance the summoning sense wouldn’t have attenuated by such a degree. Facing three wilds and she had chosen to bring over only a single low level? Nothing he had heard had led him to believe her overly reckless. With her supposed power he would have expected at least two, one for her own protection and one to hold off the demon.

Then there was the wild. Plotki pinched the bridge of his noise as he felt the beginnings of a headache and consciously relaxed his jaw. How were they summoning without an orb? His early assumption that Amaran had somehow discovered blood summoning seemed highly unlikely. Even with the handwritten notes in the Yunan’s copy of the headmaster’s book it had taken him several attempts to perfect the procedure, and there was no reason to believe Amaran’s copy had held the same annotations; the Shansi one hadn’t. He certainly couldn’t see the young summoner taking the time to decipher the scrawlings and then managing to remember them this long.

No, they had to have found another way. And if that wasn’t bad enough they weren’t even where they were meant to be! Plotki’s hands tightened reflexively round the basket rim in frustration. Everything he knew about Seiya pointed to her returning to the ranch to guard herself and her family; he wasn’t even sure how Amaran had convinced her to intervene with the lords in the first place. Though perhaps she could have been persuaded that a single show of force to prove the summoners were not helpless would put a stop to things before they got out of hand. Unsurprisingly it hadn’t worked, but what was she still doing out here? Going from village to village protecting it from soldiers? He would have welcomed such actions a while ago but not now, not when orb-wielding summoners could accidentally run into her. The orbs were in finite supply, and none were strong enough yet that he would risk a direct confrontation. Even worse, now she knew about the orbs she could purposefully start hunting them.

And what would happen if it was Amaran who got hold of one? Plotki scowled at all the unnecessary complications. The only positive note was that Amaran would focus on Yggur and Youally, he doubted the boy even knew who he was.
